The winner of the inaugural Shining Scribes competition will be announced at a presentation in the CC4 Museum of Welsh Cricket at the SWALEC Stadium on Friday, March 6th
Shining Scribes, a short story competition aimed at primary school pupils, gives children from across South Wales an opportunity display their written talents to a wider audience.
Pupils from over 60 schools across South Wales have taken part in the competition, with the ten finalists attending the presentation which will be held in the CC4 Museum of Welsh Cricket at Glamorgan's headquarters.
The stories, written by children from Bridgend, the Vale of Glamorgan, Torfaen, Monmouth and Cardiff, will all be voiced by professional actors in audio form.
The competition has been judged by a celebrity panel including former Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, actor Ruth Jones, singer Bonnie Tyler, Olympic gold medallists Iwan Thomas and Jamie Baulch, TV presenter Iolo Williams, cricketer Robert Croft and Welsh rugby legend Scott Quinnell.
As well as a tour of the SWALEC Stadium and a look behind the scenes at the the ground which will be hosting the opening Test Match of the 2015 Ashes series, the winning pupils will also hear their work voiced for the first time. The winners will all be presented with prizes, with the overall winner set to be announced on Friday evening at the presentation ceremony at which Dewi Pws Morris, the former Children's Poet Laureate for Wales, will also be in attendance.
Robert Croft, one of the competition's judges and assistant coach at Glamorgan Cricket said: "We have been overwhelmed by the number of fantastic entries we have received which has made narrowing the entries down to ten a very hard task.
"It is clear that there is a lot of budding writing talent in South Wales, which we hope to be able to help nurture and encourage as part of our commitment to helping promote children's literacy in Wales."
